“In the name of Kebab” focuses on Abbas, a Bangladeshi entrepreneur and owner of Almadina Doner Kebab & Food.
In a small shop in San Giuseppe Vesuviano, everyday life takes shape through repetition: work, waiting, conversations, light.
The project does not seek spectacle, but attention, tracing the quiet presence of a life built far from its place of origin.
Life is a combination of magic and Kebab
Food is not neutral.
It carries culture, memory and transformation.
In Abbas’s shop, it becomes a meeting point between geographies, a space where identities are negotiated and shared through simple, repetitive gestures.
More than nourishment, food acts as a social connector: it builds proximity, creates familiarity and transforms an ordinary place into a site of exchange.

Published under the title “In the Name of Kebab”, the project has been recognized as a visual exploration of everyday life, where food becomes a cultural and social connector.
This photographic project is a tribute to Kebab, both as a food and as a tool for spreading culture. The photos show Abbass, the owner of Al Madina Kebab in San Giuseppe Vesuviano, Naples, Italy.
Abbass is from Bangladesh and lives here in Italy, but he dreams of returning to his country, where his family lives. Abbass and I have been friends for many years and he allowed me to take these photos, which I then gave to him and he sent to his family in Bangladesh.
Photography is a means of telling the story of Abbass’s resilience in a country that is fundamentally hostile to him because of his culture, but which loves him for his delicious Kebab.
